Parental POWER Summit

Take Action Now

Current Action Items Needed

Dear Marylanders,

We have an urgent call to action that requires your support. A concerned parent from Carroll County has highlighted significant issues with the MD Health Curriculum Framework, particularly concerning the premature and inappropriate introduction of concepts related to gender expression and sexual orientation in schools.

We believe that topics such as gender expression in kindergarten, the term “sex assigned at birth” in sixth grade, and discussions on how sex can differ from gender in high school, should be addressed within the family rather than in the classroom. Moreover, teaching about sexual preferences/orientation in fourth grade and introducing first graders to the concept of same-sex couples are matters that many parents prefer to discuss at home.

How You Can Help: Please consider supporting our cause by sending an email to the MD state superintendent. For your convenience, a draft letter is included below which you can copy and personalize. Additionally, attached to this email, you will find a Word document that you can fill out with your address, the date, and include a snail mail option if desired. We aim to make our voices heard through a significant number of submissions.

Deadline: Please send your letters by July 19, 2024.

For those seeking more information, we have included a comparison summary of the 2014-2019 framework versus the current framework. You can also review the entire Maryland Comprehensive Health Education Framework here: Maryland Comprehensive Health Education Framework (marylandpublicschools.org)
